Wipi Privacy Policy
Wipi: WiFi & Camera Scanner · Last updated 18 September 2026
In short: Wipi works on your phone. We don't collect, store or sell any personal information, we have no servers, and the app contains no ads, analytics or tracking.
This policy explains what the Wipi Android app (“Wipi”, “the app”) does with information. Wipi is published by vendvl (“we”, “us”).
Information we collect
None. We don't operate any servers and the app never sends information to us. We don't ask for your name, email or any account, and we can't see who uses the app or how.
Information the app processes on your phone
To do its job, Wipi reads and creates information that stays on your device:
- Network scans: IP addresses, MAC addresses, device names, manufacturers and open ports of devices on the Wi-Fi network you scan. The most recent scans are saved in the app's private storage so you can view scan history and spot new devices. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes them.
- Wi-Fi details: your network name, signal strength and local IP address, shown in the app and not saved elsewhere.
- App Network Monitor (Pro): which apps on your phone looked up which internet domains. This is kept in memory only, never written to storage, and cleared when the app closes.
Permissions
- Location: Android requires location permission before an app can read the Wi-Fi network name or discover nearby devices. Wipi does not use GPS and does not determine, store or share your location.
- Nearby devices, Wi-Fi and network state: used to scan your local network.
- Internet: used to scan and connect to devices on your network, and for the features listed under “When the app contacts the internet”.
App Network Monitor and the VPN
The App Network Monitor uses Android's VPN feature, but only on your phone. No traffic goes to a VPN server run by us or anyone else. When you turn it on, Android routes the phone's DNS lookups (the step where an app turns a name like example.com into an address) through Wipi, which notes which app made each lookup and passes it on unchanged to your network's DNS server, as your phone normally would. If your network's DNS server can't be determined, Wipi uses Cloudflare's public DNS (1.1.1.1). All other traffic flows normally and isn't touched. You can turn the monitor off at any time in the app or in Android's VPN settings.
When the app contacts the internet
- Public IP lookup: only when you tap to show your public IP in Network Info, the app asks ipify (api.ipify.org) for it. Like any web request, ipify sees your IP address; see ipify.org for their practices.
- Traceroute and DNS Lookup: these contact only the host name or address you type in.
- Google Play: subscriptions are handled entirely by Google Play. Wipi only asks Google Play whether this device's Google account has an active Wipi Pro subscription. We never receive your payment details, name or email. Google's handling is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Sharing and selling
We don't share or sell any information, because we don't receive any.
Children
Wipi is a network utility intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Using Wipi responsibly
Scan only networks and devices you own or have permission to test.
Changes to this policy
If Wipi's handling of information changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
